“Geet
Govindam”
This
creation of mine is based on a narrative from the Indian Epic Mahabharata in
which Rukhmini, the princess Vidarbha was asked to marry Sishupal, the King of
Chedi against her wishes and also the norm of that time which entitled a
princess to choose her own royal consort. She has secretly chosen to marry Lord
Krishna after having heard of his glory, righteous values and valor, so she
immediately wrote a letter in the form of a poem “Geet Govindam”which is
beautifully described in the “Shrimad Bhagvat”, asking the Lord to come and
rescue her from her despondency and accept her as his queen consort. The
marriage proposal request letter was sent to the Lord’s abode in “Dwarika” in
the trusted and worthy hands of a Brahmin messenger.
Here
I have depicted the “Shringar Bhava” in which Rukhmini is fully bedecked and
bejeweled and is waiting in anticipation for the final divine
meeting with her Lord in his full glory.
